I would like any ideas on keeping my head still when chipping
Hi Lisa!!
Most often students struggle to maintain posture (or keep your head down) for one of two major reasons.
1. You are not starting in a balanced position with the weight properly distributed over your ankle joints. If you are not establishing and maintaining this engagement throughout the swing, the body will try to stand up as soon as you start to rotate from that position. For this, I would review the primary tilt concepts in the balance section of the short game fundamentals. A good exercise to establish the right feel for this would be the resisted band setup drill in the full swing drills library.
2. The second issue would come if you were pushing the club in the downswing more than you were pulling it. There's a simple drill to get you feeling the right movement for this concept and it can be located in the full swing drills library under the backswing tab. It is called banded rows.
I hope this helps!! Let me know if you have further questions and I would be happy to direct you to good resources!
Hi Casey, My husband says he is seeing me looking up after I chip to see where the ball went. And that is usually when I scull it.
Hi Casey, First off, thanks so much! I'm assuming the band exercise in the full swing section is the one that you had me do on my drives?
Yes, I believe we have done that together. It is important to maintain this feeling of pulling as you turn so you do not disrupt your balance.
Yes, it is common to see the head coming up. That is not your issue though, and focusing on that will only further inhibit your rotation and lead to more of the same issues. Instead of thinking about your head or keeping it still, work on getting into a setup position where your weight remains over your ankle so you can remain balanced and turn through the shot without losing your posture.
